Study of everything. Zoologists examine animal bodies, how babies develop, how to sort animals into groups, what they eat, where they live, and even animals that lived millions of years ago.

Animals and homes. Zoologists look at how animals interact with their surroundings and other creatures, figuring out how ecosystems stay balanced and healthy.

Big branch of biology. Zoology is one of the main ways scientists study life on Earth, right alongside botany (plants) and microbiology (tiny organisms).

Ancient Greek roots. The word zoology comes from two Greek words: zôion meaning animal and lógos meaning study of, so it literally means animal science.

Living and extinct. Zoologists study animals alive today plus creatures that disappeared long ago by examining fossils and piecing together their stories.
