Removes heat indoors. Air conditioning works by pulling hot air from inside a room and moving that heat outside, leaving the indoor space nice and cool. It's like a heat vacuum cleaner for your home.

Controls humidity too. Beyond just cooling, air conditioning can also control how much moisture is in the air inside your home. This keeps things from feeling sticky or damp.

Part of a bigger system. Air conditioning is actually one piece of a larger system called HVAC, which stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. This system handles both keeping spaces warm and cool depending on the season.

Heat pumps do double duty. Some machines called heat pumps work like air conditioners but with a special valve that lets them reverse what they do. This means they can cool a space in summer and heat it in winter.

Works many different ways. You don't always need a machine to air condition a space. Passive cooling uses things like thick walls and shade, while ventilative cooling uses fans and natural air movement to stay cool.
