Massive harbor city. Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand with over 1.5 million people living in the urban area. It's the fifth-biggest city in the entire Oceania region, which includes Australia, New Zealand, and all the Pacific islands.

Built on volcanoes. Auckland sits on a volcanic field with about 50 volcanic cones scattered throughout the city. Many of these volcanoes are now extinct and have become parks and natural landmarks that people hike and explore.

Island-filled gulf. The city is surrounded by the Hauraki Gulf, which is dotted with beautiful islands. The Auckland Council manages both the city and these islands, making it one connected region.

Water everywhere. Being surrounded by water on multiple sides makes Auckland one of the most maritime cities in the world. The harbors and beaches are central to how people live and play here.
