Carved from rock. The Ellora Caves were chiseled directly out of solid stone cliffs by hand, creating an entire complex of temples and caves without moving the rock away. This incredible feat of rock-cut architecture took centuries to complete.

Three religions together. Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain caves all exist in the same complex, showing that different faiths shared this sacred space in ancient India. The caves showcase the religious art and beliefs of all three traditions side by side.

Temple shaped like a chariot. Cave 16 contains the Kailash Temple, the world's largest monument carved from a single piece of stone. It's shaped like a chariot and dedicated to the god Shiva, with incredible sculptures and detailed relief panels showing stories from famous Hindu epics.

Ancient masterpiece. Artists created detailed sculptures and carvings between the years 600 and 1000 AD, decorating the caves with depictions of gods and scenes from sacred stories. The artwork shows incredible skill and detail carved into the stone walls.

World heritage site. Ellora Caves is recognized by UNESCO as one of the most important historical sites on Earth. It's one of the largest rock-cut cave complexes in the entire world.
