Lived in the woods. Thoreau built a tiny cabin by Walden Pond in Massachusetts and lived there for over two years, growing his own food and writing about how simple living could make life better and more meaningful.
Wrote Walden. His most famous book describes his time in the forest and teaches readers that you don't need lots of stuff to be happy, just nature, books, and time to think.
Civil disobedience idea. Thoreau believed that if the government does something wrong, people have the right to peacefully refuse to obey its unjust laws, an idea that inspired famous leaders like Martin Luther King Jr.
Nature observer. He spent hours watching animals, plants, and seasons change, carefully writing down what he saw and thinking deeply about how humans fit into the natural world.
