Trains and cars meet. At a level crossing, a railway line crosses a road at exactly the same level, like two streets intersecting. This is different from bridges or tunnels that go over or under each other.

Many different names. Level crossings go by lots of names around the world. You might hear them called railway crossings, grade crossings, railroad crossings, or even train crossings, depending on where you live.

Not just for roads. Level crossings aren't only where trains meet car roads. They can also happen where train tracks cross airport runways, bicycle paths, or other routes that need to use the same space.

Light rail too. Modern light rail systems (which are like smaller, urban trains) also have level crossings where they cross regular roads in cities, just like full-size railways do.
