National Cherry Blossom Festival

Gift of friendship. In 1912, Japan's Mayor Yukio Ozaki sent over 3,000 cherry trees to Washington, D.C. as a special present to show that the United States and Japan were good friends.

Spring celebration. The festival happens every March and April when the cherry trees burst into bloom with beautiful pink and white flowers, turning the whole city into a magical garden.

Giant parade party. The festival includes massive colorful helium balloons, marching bands from all over the country, floats, and live music that fill the streets with fun and excitement.

Cultural bridge. This festival celebrates the lasting friendship between Japan and America, showing how a simple gift of trees can create a bond that lasts for more than 100 years.
