Mighty hunter. Neovenator was a large meat-eating dinosaur that prowled the Early Cretaceous world about 125 million years ago, making it one of the top predators of its time.

Found in England. Scientists discovered Neovenator's bones on the Isle of Wight in southern England, buried in rocks from an ancient time when this area had warm seas and tropical coastlines.

Multiple skeletons. Paleontologists found several skeletons of Neovenator, which gives them lots of clues about how this dinosaur looked and lived.

Discovered by accident. The first Neovenator bones were uncovered in 1978 when part of a cliff called Grange Chine collapsed, revealing treasures hidden in the rock.

Named in 1996. Scientists Steve Hutt, David Martill, and Michael Barker officially named this dinosaur genus Neovenator, which means 'new hunter.'
