Cool Facts
Built for speed. Ornithomimus was a swift, bipedal dinosaur that could run quickly across the landscape of western North America. Its two powerful hind legs were perfect for racing across plains and escaping danger.
Covered in feathers. Unlike the giant meat-eating dinosaurs, Ornithomimus had feathers covering its body. These feathers may have helped it stay warm or look impressive to other dinosaurs.
Toothless beak. Instead of sharp teeth, Ornithomimus had a small, toothless beak similar to a bird's. Scientists think it used this beak to peck at plants, seeds, insects, and small creatures for food.
Ate many things. Ornithomimus was an omnivore, meaning it ate both plants and animals. This diet gave it flexibility to find food in different seasons and environments.
Late Cretaceous dinosaur. Ornithomimus lived during the Campanian and Maastrichtian ages, which were the last chapters of the age of dinosaurs. It roamed western North America before dinosaurs went extinct.
