You stand the whole time. Unlike surfing where you lie down or sit, in paddleboarding you stand on a big floating board and use a long paddle to push yourself forward. It takes balance and core strength, but beginners can learn it pretty quickly.
Super popular sport. In 2013, a report found that standup paddleboarding had the most first-time participants of any outdoor sport in the United States that year. People loved trying it for the first time.
Many ways to play. You can do paddleboarding on calm flat water, race against others, surf waves, paddle through whitewater rapids, do yoga on your board, or even fish from it. There's something for everyone.
Flat and flowing water. While some paddleboarders tackle waves and rough water, many people enjoy the peaceful version on lakes, rivers, and calm ocean spots where the water is gentle and easy to navigate.
