Cool Facts
Overnight in nature. Summer camps are supervised programs where children stay overnight in outdoor settings, usually for one or two weeks during summer vacation. Kids live together in a natural campsite and do activities as a group.
Different from day camp. While day camps send kids home each evening, sleepaway camps let children stay overnight and wake up to a full day of adventure. This gives campers more time to bond and explore together.
Building friendships. Summer camps help kids develop independence and social skills by living away from home and working together on structured activities. Many campers make friendships that last for years.
Not just school time. Unlike summer school, which focuses on catching up in academics, summer camps aim to teach outdoor skills and nature learning through fun, hands-on activities. Some camps include academic lessons, but it's not required.
Learning outdoors. Camps encourage kids to explore nature, try new sports, learn survival skills, and discover interests they might not have at home. It's a different kind of learning that happens outside the classroom.
