Massive stone city. Uxmal was built by the Maya people over a thousand years ago in what is now Mexico. It's one of the most important Maya cities ever discovered, showing us how smart and skilled the ancient Maya were.

Puuc style master. Uxmal is the best example of Puuc architecture, a special building style from the Yucatan Peninsula that uses beautiful stone decorations and geometric patterns. The buildings at Uxmal show this style better than almost any other place.

World heritage site. In 1996, Uxmal was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which means the whole world recognizes it as super important to human history. It was honored along with three other nearby Maya ruins: Kabah, Sayil, and Labna.

Western Yucatan location. You'll find Uxmal in the Puuc region of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, a special area known for its unique Maya sites and architectural traditions. The limestone landscape there was perfect for the Maya to build their incredible cities.

Compared to legends. Uxmal ranks alongside other super-famous Maya cities like Chichen Itza, Tikal, and Palenque as one of the most important archaeological sites in the entire Maya world.
