Climbed Everest. On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and his climbing partner Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. They were part of a British expedition led by John Hunt, and they're the first climbers we can confirm actually made it to the top.

Explored Antarctica. Hillary didn't stop after Everest. He went on to explore Antarctica and became fascinated with the frozen continent, leading expeditions to study its landscape and environment.

Helped mountain people. Hillary spent much of his life helping the Sherpa people who live in the mountains of Nepal. He funded schools, hospitals, and infrastructure projects to improve their communities.

Served his country. From 1985 to 1988, Hillary represented New Zealand as High Commissioner to India and Bangladesh and as Ambassador to Nepal, using his fame to strengthen his country's relationships with these nations.

Honored worldwide. Hillary was knighted for his achievements and became one of the most famous explorers of the 20th century, inspiring people everywhere to pursue big dreams and help others.
