Ida B. Wells

Investigative reporter. Ida B. Wells was one of the first journalists to dig deep into difficult stories about injustice in America. She wrote articles that exposed the truth even when it was dangerous to do so.

Fought for equality. She dedicated her whole life to helping African Americans gain equal rights and standing up for women's rights too. She believed everyone deserved to be treated fairly no matter their race or gender.

Co-founded the NAACP. Ida B. Wells was one of the founders of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, an organization that still works today to fight for civil rights and equality.

Educator and organizer. Beyond writing, she taught others and organized communities to stand together for justice. She showed that one determined person speaking truth could inspire many others to demand change.

Fearless activist. Ida B. Wells faced real danger for her work, but she never stopped fighting for what was right. Her courage inspired civil rights leaders who came after her.
