Scottish storyteller. James Matthew Barrie was born in Scotland and studied there before moving to London, where he became a famous novelist and playwright.

Creator of Peter Pan. Barrie wrote Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up, which premiered on stage in 1904 as a magical fairy play that audiences loved.

Inspired by real boys. Barrie met a family of boys called the Llewelyn Davies and they gave him ideas for his story about a boy with magical adventures.

Magic and imagination. Peter Pan takes place in a magical world called Neverland, where a boy named Peter and a girl named Wendy have incredible adventures together without ever growing old.
